Piston Rings
Rebuilding a '92 302 for a 4WD F150. To my surprise, found out that the engine had already been rebuilt (0.030 over pistons), before it ever left the factory. Heard that some >1980s vehicles come this way. Very disappointing.
Nevertheless, replaced all but cam and roller lifters (little to no wear) and pistons. Rebuild is going quite well with one exception: piston rings sent in engine kit are too thin and all local parts stores show the same ring (i.e., its not a labelling issue, etc.). Diameter and width seem okay, just a thickness problem (or height problem if you envision laying the ring flat on a table). Not sure how to go about obtaining the correct rings economically (emphasis on "economically"--already spent enough for a short block). Any tips would be much appreciated.
