When was the very FIRST PSD sent out of the factory? I just picked up a crashed crew cab PSD with a build date of 4-94. Sadly Its got a reman engine in it so I can't look at the engine serial number, its even got the older IDI style rad in it.
I was just curious as this has got to be one of the first off the line.
It probably is. Middle of '94 is when they started coming out. They had the old style radiators and they didn't have "Powerstroke Diesel" stickers under the fender badges. They just said "Turbo Diesel" on the fenders and tailgate.
Engine serial number would only indicate when, relatively, the engine was built by International. The VIN would tell you how early it came off whichever line (they were built in multiple factories). They might have reset the serial portion of the VIN when they introduced the PSD engine code.
I know of a few Turbo IDI's around I will have to check there numbers to see just how close they are.
I was looking for the engine tag on the HPOP res, and that when I noticed it was a reman engine.
Poor truck got hit hard in the drivers side front, cracked the center housing on the D60 and twisted the rear axle so hard one tube spun 180º. I'll get pics up later.
Depending how(not necessarily when) you ordered the truck, you could get all 3 engines at the same time(N/A, turbo, or PSD) so the build date from an IDI will not tell you much.
^^^^^ This is why the serial portion of the VIN may be the most telling. I'm thinking that since the three engines had different engine codes in the VIN, they might have reset the numeric part of the VIN for each one.
I ment I would look at the vin on a few of the later IDI equiped trucks around to see if there is any overlap, or just how close they were made to this one.
I am away from the truck till sunday, but I think the last 5 of the vin was 35112....
from my research the first PSD had a build date of 3/94..... mine had a build date of 4/94 and had the newer powerstroke stickers on it, not the turbo diesel ones
Yeah, can't really tell from the photos, but it looks like one from the top. It just doesn't look the same from the oil filter placement, but who knows? If it is, happy for you!
