Hello my girlfriend and I just bought a 97 Ranger XLT V6 Auto, and it is a really nice truck with the exception of one problem. When you use the air conditioning on MAX AC it works fine and blows cold but when you but it on regular AC it starts to blow hot. Any ideas what the problem is and how I can fix it?? Please use baby steps if possible, I'm just a kid-corvette mechanic and have yet to tear into the ranger whatsoever.
Thanks In Advance!

I would start my checking the air blend door, you should notice an air flow change when changing from hot to cold with the blower on high. When you switch to max AC the coolant flow to the heater core is turned off, thats why you get cold air then. The tech info post has a link to a fix, to replace the plenum you need to remove the entire dash.
THat's how Ford designed it. The only time the compressor isn't running is when the selector is on "vent only" or "floor only"

So if im understanding this right, then the most common cause of this problem is the actuator pin that drives the blend door breaking??
I had just done the blend door fix for my 96 Mazda B2300 and it works like a charm. It's easy to understand the instructions but note that it's hard to stick you hands in the space above the air box and you MUST have a small dentist's mirror to see the way the door pin broke. Have a good look at the way it broke to plan you drilling and pin positioning. If you do it right you can get it in one go. Just like I did :-)
The whole thing should take about an hour to do if you are good with your hands.
It's a pitty you live that far away. If you drive up to Dallas I'll be happy to help you fix it.
