What did I do?
Here's the story. I bought a 1987 F-250(351w 4bbl, C-6, 3.55 gears) in Illinois to move the last of my stuff out to Phoenix, AZ back in March. The truck had a reman 351w put in it about 9 months before I bought it, so it seemed like a pretty good deal. But, since they did not need to pass emissions there, they left a few things off and I didn't notice. And even though the truck passes the emissions numbers, it has to have the systems it came with. I've been working on recreating the air injection and the evap systems.
Today I finally got aorund to putting some of this stuff in. I was not able to recreate the exact system, all the parts jsut could not be found. I found the right air manifolds that screw into ports on the exahust manifolds, I found a dump valve, and I got a pump from a 95 or 96. I put the air manifolds on, hooked up hoses, dump valve etc. to the pump, but I don't have the pump rotating yet, as the bracket I got was too short and I don't have the belt yet. After hooking that up I went back out to junkyard row for another bracket.
Now when I drive it, instead of shifting at around 2000 rpm, it won't shift until 2600-2800 rpm, or IOW it shifts to 2nd between 35 and 40mph and to 3rd at about 50-55 mph.
So, please educate me here
. What makes these pre-computer trannies shift? Vacuum? Did I cause a leak somewhere? Could it be a change or lack of exahust back pressure? I'm not sure if the old check valves on the air manifolds are sealing up like they're supposed to. Once the thing cools off I'll be able to go poke around some more, but that will be a while since it's 105 out and climbing. Thanks in advance!
Where do I find the vacuum modulator and the line?
