2004 Ford e350 200k kms, v10 6.8L
I have no codes, all lights come on as normal but when you go all the way to start all I get is clicking of relays in engine compartment fuse box. replaced with brand new battery, replaced the starter motor solenoid relay beside battery on firewall, replaced starter to no avail, have 12v going to starter just won't engage when requested, I was able to crank the engine by jumping the two posts on the starter, it rotates the flywheel no problem and there is power, finally I replaced the DTR sensor on side of transmission with no change, what am I missing here?? Please help? All I am getting is clicking of relays. Forgot to mention but when key goes all the way to start position the lights do dim so there is a large draw...
Check all your larger ground wires first---those have been known to cause huge issues from time to time.
The dimming lights does suggest a large amp draw---with no starter rotation I've got to think it might be locked out or suffered a failed armature etc.
Check the Starter relay wires too....along with the grounds...It can also be a bad contact in the Ignition switch itself....which would explain the draw when you turn key all the way....It takes 2 minutes to replace the switch ....at least for me ....
Well thanks for the help folks, after giving in on the first day and calling a ford tech who said I did everything he would have, he said it could possibly be bad PCM or computer, I went to a local shop with vin in hand and he told me he needed the number off the actual PCM to get me the right replacement. Back I went and peeled off the panelling only to discover there was an aftermarket PPI installed. This is a Passive Proximity vehicle Immobilizer, without the fob no power to the starter or fuel pump. Lesson learned when buying a govt seized vehicle at auction... I cut out the PPI363 and it runs like a dream
