Ok, got my Uncles 69 ford running. Everything works great, but there is a loud knocking in the upper end. We pulled the engine out a 80 thunderbird and changed the Intake and Cam. We put a Edelbrock Performer Plus Intake and matching Cam set in. Change the timing gears to Metal gears. On the upper side there is a loud knocking. We can't figure it out. Sounds to me like it may be a bad lifter, but I'm not sure how to check for that.

Here is what I've done to check.

I took 4 rockers and push rods out at a time and check the push rods and they seem to be fine. Started the engine with these 4 out and the sound remains. I put them back in and took 4 more out etc... never changed anything.

Sometimes it sounds like it is from the Back side of the intake, sometimes in the center, sometimes in the front.

This sound started when I was doing the Break in Run for the Cam.

This really worries me as I am not to far from putting my 351w together for my truck and I'm going to be using an Edelbrock performer intake and cam I bought from a member of this site. So I need to find the problem with his 302, and want to make sure I dont have the same problem with my 351.

BTW, I'm pretty sure it is a lifter or lifters may be bad. But, I dont know how to check them while in the engine and I really dont want to pull everything back apart. So the main question I guess would be, How do I find which lifter or lifters are causing this?
