E4OD to C6 trans conversion?

E4OD to C6 trans conversion?
Hello, I have a 1997 F350 crew-cab with a 7.5 engine and E4OD.
I pull heavy loads over the mountains and tired of the E4OD rebuild cost . Would it be possible to convert to a 1992 C6 trans I am aware that it is shorter and I would have to move the mount and change the drive lines. What about the electrical? what else would have to be changed to convert over?
Thank you for information you may have.

I drive pretty conservatively no load about 70 and loaded 60! When I am pulling a load I don't drive around with the OD on ether. Since the last rebuild a 1-1/2 ago with heavy upgrades I have done very little in hauling until recently and it malfunctioned and ate itself. No don't have a oil temp gage but had a fair sized oil cooler that I put on at the time of the rebuild before that it ran through the radiator.

I agree, I don't see an advantage to going to a C6, they cook worse then E4ODs cause no lockup converter.
I'd say warranty/fix the E4OD add a tamp gauge and look into some electronic upgrades.
I see no reason why a C6 conversion wouldn't work, but I might be missing something.
Or maybe a ZF5 is in order for you.

Get it in gear transmission in Merlin Oregon rebuilt it a year and half ago. If i remember correctly my gear ratio is 3.73.
from the sounds of it i did not get a very good rebuild. supposedly all new steel gears, clutches new valve body and solenoid pack cost me 2600 plus the new oil cooler.
Local logger here a few moments ago says he runs 10-30 synthetic in his E4OD's and has good luck said before that he was blowing them up right and left. anyone else heard this? And I know he works the daylights out his pickups.

$2600? Holy crap! Engine oil in an auto trans? Double holy crap! Auto trans fluids have friction modifiers that are designed for the specific brand of trans being used. These friction modifiers are what makes the clutches and bands take hold without slipping too much or grabbing too aggressively. I would think engine oil would make it slip like crazy, but I've been fooled before.

I went out and looked this morning and it is 3.55 ratio. Around here that was middle of the road pricing some were more some were really low and this guy was recommended. wont do that again.
So what i am getting the drift here and talking to several people is that the computer would be the problem with doing such a change and I am better to stay with what I have. Just have to find a better re builder.

Depending on what you are pulling and how frequently you are pulling it, you should reconsider your rear differential. Even a perfect rebuild will only get you so far if you don't have tall enough gears for what you pull.
I have 3.55's, but I only rarely pull large equipment, and baby the heck out of it.
Was your torque converter toast?

Yes the torque converter is toast and I am considering lowering the rear ratio, I use it for longer trips which will really kill the mileage.
I will add to that I also considering leaving it as is and Rebuilding a 74 ford 1 ton set back rear axle with 4.10 gears. I have a 428 and a C6 to put in it and use it for the heavy haul. Just another vehicle I have to license and insure.
