my foolish freind and i are arguing here guys he says headers won't cause damage to vales or other, and i say they do could someone please help me educate this fool. walk soft and carry a big 6. please come in.?
The only reason headers would damage valves is if you run them(headers) open for a long time and the valves cool to fast and warp somewhat, but this usaully only happens where people run their exhaust straight up out of the hood, like demo cars or pullin trucks then the heat rises and the valves cool to quick, but I would have say headers would have very little effect on your valves being ruined.
The reason headers get a bad rap is failure to keep the flange tight will induce valve warping. I understand this to be a function of cheap headers and cheap fasteners. Other than that I do not know of any internal engine damage from headers.
In the days of carburetors, headers would lean the engine out. If you didn't re-jet the carb to match you could burn up the valves. EFI systems adjust the fuel/air ratio automatically.
If you put headers on a lawn mower, it will be louder! YEA! LOUDER RULZ! You'd be pushing like 3 extra horses outta that thing. You could mow your lawn and mulch it 2X before ya know it!
Usually lawn mowers are 1 cylinder and just have a pipe coming out of the head into a muffler, so you basically have headers on your lawn mower already.
