I was thinking about getting billet emblems for the side of my truck but I've heard that you can use acetone to remove the coloring from them. Has anybody done this? does it work well? how do I do it? Please help!!
I did both mine and my brothers in abuot 20 minutes total. The XLT came off of his 2003, but they stayed on my 2002. So 4 bucks later, he's back in business. It's quick and very easy to do.
Hey RdBaron03,
Go to my gallery under Acetoned Badges....
You can mask off your truck around the badge but use the good tape that body shops use so that you don't have residue when you pull it off. Or you can take the badges off as I did. I used braided fishing line to saw off the badges..Use caution when tugging or pulling on the badge! If you have any questions, email me or post a reply. Like mentioned in the above, you can do a search on acetone...this has been a huge thread from time to time.
If your XLT comes off which usually does..some people have luck with it staying on but if not, you can order the decal for about $7
That's what I did. Looks clean.

Hey Markf250
The badges look great what do I use to re-attach them to the truck? and what did you do about the adhesive left on the truck when you took off the badges? Thanks for all the info.
You'll find a wealth of info doing the searches mentioned here, and even more over at the Diesel Stop where it has been discussed extensively also (search in the archive). Lately, some guys are replacing their door badges with the new 2003 style, then acetoning (or reverse acetoning) the ones on the front quarter panel to match.
I thought about getting the new badges but decided against it for the cost. What I really want is F-550 badges all the way around. I thought that would be kinda cool since the truck is big. At least to make people ask.
