I have a 99 4.0L Ranger that has 135k miles. For the last year and a half i have had 5 problems with the engine missing. The check engine light has come on in each of those times. The problem always seems to be a misfire in a separate cylinder each time. First is was the no. 4 cylinder than the no. 6 and also it's been the no. 3. During this past year and a half I have replaced the plugs and wires (both bought from the dealership) twice. the last time about 4k miles ago. About 2 weeks ago it started running rough again the truck actually jerks when I step on the accelerater. So I replaced the fuel filter which didn't help. Last week the cel came on it was a misfire in 6. I replace the plug and it ran better for about 2 days. Then it started running rough again missing when i step on the accelerator. Now the cel has come on again. Can anybody help.
