looking at low cost tire options for my SD. One of the local tire guys highly recommended the GT radial AT3. Looks like there are lots of other import tires on the market as well. So, anyone have any experience with any of the many import tires available on a heavy truck?
looking for 265/70/17 or 245/75/17. sticking with stock sizes. Guess ill take a look at them afterall. anyone actually run a set of these? Owner of the tire shop talked them up for a long time, claims he puts them on oil field trucks and they all love them.
My cousin had some GT radial mud tires on his f150. He loved them. Although they wore really funny, he says they gripped and pushed through anything.
Personally, I'm running a pair of Chinese Hercules Terra-Trac R/S tires on my f100. I really like them. They get amazing traction and are pretty tough.
So I don't think imported tires are that bad. HOWEVER, the older nitto tires that came from Japan were junk! We had a set on our SD and they all did the same thing. Tread belts came apart and separated. All with about half tread left too. All 6 did this, all the same way.
If I've never heard of the tire brand, I wont run it.
These days most stuff comes from over seas, and it doenst bother me much. I cant stop it.
If I am going to buy imported tires, I am going to buy good ones.
Heck, regardless of where my tires come from, I'm buying good ones. USA has spit out some bad product in her day too.
I care less about where it comes from, and more about the quality of product.
I also only purchase US made for my truck, although it is hard to find US made parts sometimes.
X10 to the 10th order Sarge. Keep it here in the USA! Keep us working not china. If everyone keeps putting the chineasium back on the shelf we will get the massage across to the retailers in the best way we can...IN THEIR WALLETS!
Get some American brand e-rated tires. Just buy they one at a time if you need to and then replace them.
i shopped for tires at costco, they refused to sell me one tire at a time, thats the way i afford them though. so i need to shop elseware. dont know why im PAYING to be a member there.....
I have a set of GT radial, p265-75-16. on my sons truck. They work fine for his use. back and forth to school and a few short trips. I try to buy a tire brand I have seen around for a while before I buy them in 10 ply or E rated.
