I've been a long time reader but this is the first time I couldn't find my answer by searching and reading. Long frustrating story a bit shorter, I have 275/55/R20's off of a 2013 Lariat on my wife's 2004 Expedition. Since the TPMS were 10 years old, I bought a set of new Schrader 20096 sensors and had them installed. After following the instructions posted by Parts Guy Wyatt and others, I'm able to get the Expedition in learning mode as acknowledged by the horn beeping once. That is where my success ends.
I have a large speaker magnet and the official Ford TPMS-19-8C2Z-1A203-A trigger tool. The trigger tool and the magnet never gets the driver's front left tire to register. One thing I did notice is the valve stem sits lower in the wheel than the ones on the stock wheels. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to buy the official training magnet? Has anybody else ran into similar problems? HELP!!!
Alloro, thanks for the reply. They were the correct TPMS per Tire Rack. I'm hoping the official magnet does the trick and one is supposed to arrive on Saturday. I think the design of the wheel and how recessed the valve stem is in the wheel might have something to do with it. Fingers crossed.
