E4OD Tranny Problems
Here is my story. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I have a 89' F250 7.3 non-turbo 2WD diesel with the E4OD. June of 2001 I shelled the factory tranny. We replaced it with a Jasper reman after finding that is what Ford was using also. 3 computers, 2 Trannys and 2 TPS switches later we felt we had it. We kept chasing a Limp In mode condition but there was no codes being set.
That is my story now. The tranny goes into Limp In mode and doesn't set a code. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack. People I have spoke to think it is definitely electrical. I can shut the truck off, restart and be on my way. This problem may happen once a week, once a month, or several times a day. Still not ever setting a code?? I've looked at the harness from the tranny to the computer and all looks good. The problem is beginning to happen more frequently. There is no deciding factor of what causes it. I can come off a stop light, slow down to go into a parking lot, be just driving down the street. Both with and without the AC on also.
Is there a souce that will tell me all parameters that can throw a truck into " Limp In Mode " and start looking at each one. A list of all sensors, wire colors to look at, connectors, voltage points ...anything?? The truck is a good truck except for this problem. I never had this problem prior to the new transmission. Is this a common problem??
Thanks for your help.

You might check the MLP/TR sensor. It is behind the shift lever on the drivers side of the transmission. Check and see if there is moisture in the connection. If there is replace the sensor and add Die-eletric gel inside to seal it from moisture. I believe that Ford has an updated sensor for your truck that will include an updated female plug that will replace the plug on your wiring harness. I have seen this cause all kinds of weird transmission problems and set no codes at all.
Hope this helps,
