Introduction

Hi I'm new to the forum - and there are many rules so I'm not sure if this belongs here.

Went to my sis in England for vacation. Had a rental Ford Mondeo manual stick. Hard ride but great cornering. But why I want to post is this.

The motor was diesel but I didn't realise until I gased up. It was the fastest quietest diesel I've ever driven. Nothing like anything we have here.

My brother-in-law tells me its a 'common-rail diesel'. Just 2L and returned 45 miles per english gallon (10% more than a US gallon). 0-60 in around 11 secs. 50-80 in around 6 secs!!!

So the question is why dont Ford use this technology here?

You didn't actually "gas up" a diesel, did you?
No wonder it ran so fast.
Glad to have you and welcome to the zoo... err..FTE.

Gary, welcome to FTE but turn on your email. Users can not see your email address thru the system.

General conversation is where we discuss questions like why we don't use certain technologies on this side of the pond

Because this is truck related site, do you mean why doesn't Ford use this technology in Ford Trucks ?

Also, the term is Imperial measure gallon, not English gallon.

1 imp gallon = 4.54 litres
1 imp gallon = approximately 4.50 us quarts

10% is close enough.

Of course I didn't gas up ......... different size nozzle prevents that (or I'd still be there working off the repair bill!).

Turn my e-mail on .......... and risk getting flooded with unwanted ad mail!

OK - why don't Ford put that technology in Ford TRUCKS? Has anyone else heard of it. Apparently there is no injection pump in the conventional sense.

A high pressure fuel rail serves all cylinders and the injectors are operated by electronic valves from the rail - so the injection / ignition timing is infinately variable and highly controlled.

Diesels are very common over there - with gas at $6 (£4) per gallon - that's no surprise.

The e-mail feature is a FTE message system only, any e-mail that would be sent to you would be clean beside it is directed through the FTE site's Compter system .

ie:It's like an intercom system on your house that only certain people can use.

It is spam free and eventually there won't be option anyway, everyone will have to have it activated.

Diesel fuel delivery:

The technical side of this diesel system question should be discussedin the fuel delivery forum.

Btw, Welcome to FTE

Where in England were you ?

Mil1ion is right about the e-mail. I've never got any unwanted e-mails from this site. The e-mail notification system is very slick. If someone responds to a thread you have subscribed to then you will be sent an e-mail letting you know about it.
