While I am braking at low speeds (1-10 mph) I feel a surging in the truck. The brake pedal itself does not pulse. It more feels like the brakes are catching then letting go, then catching then letting go, etc. Like I said, I only feel this at very low speeds while braking.
I have a few ideas of what could be happening, but I am unsure how to diagnose them correctly.
I have had some problems with the rear brakes. Possible warpage? How do I go about finding out if the drums are warped?
Front brakes. I don't know much about disk brakes.
Master cylinder or power brake booster? I would have no idea how to diagnose problems with these.
If you can help me with any of these or have any additional ideas I would be very appreciative.
I would say either the disc's or drums are warped. The only way to tell is to attach a magnetic base and dial indicator and verify the run out. When you find which ones you can replace the culprits with new ones or if it's not to bad have them turned out. From prior experience after they have warped once they tend to be chronic offenders. If the rotors are OEM replace them and save your self some hassle.
I had the same problem on my 92 F150 turning didnt help, put new ones on prolem solved.
