As for that first title, that looks more to the person who did the install. I dont see anything there that says the truck owners truck is now "illegal" or that it can't be driven. It just says in a basica terms, "dont touch the stuff, its not a good idea".
The second one if i understand just says he can't take it off and leave it off, with respect to the catalytic converters. Mufflers dont serve any purpose other than to quiet the exhaust. So maybe this truck owner is just testing out this system and will put back his cats? You dont know.
So again, who cares? Is it affecting your life personally? Sorry for the rant, I just dont get why people care what others do to there trucks on these boards, whether its this or some kid who wants to put hids in his headlights. Its his truck, its his money, its his life. Let him deal with the conseguences if any.

Not sure why you have your panties in such a bunch over this. All because I posted a reply of what the owner of the second truck did to his truck being illegal. And suggesting that others not do this to their trucks. I don't care what he does or doesn't do with his truck. I was merely informing others that might consider doing the same thing to their trucks that might not know the laws to do their research first as this is federally illegal and could result in stiff fines, vehicle impoundment, and possibly jail time. To me it's not worth the risk. The law is the law. Now what the OP had done to his truck is perfectly legal under federal DOT laws. State laws may vary. Again that is where the research comes to play. I'm not sure what your point is behind your posts, but it's completely unfounded. And if you think that I'm attacking the owner of the second truck that is pictured then you sir are completely wrong. I never once said that it was not a nice truck like you seem to think. In fact I think it is a nice truck. Not necessarily my cup of tea so to speak. But it is a nice truck. Also for those that live in states where there is no yearly inspections that think they can do whatever they want, they are wrong to. Don't believe me do something blatantly illegal to your vehicle and see what happens. FWIW I don't care what you or anyone else does to their vehicle. Hell for all I care you can go spend the money for a new car or truck of your liking and drive it straight to a scrap yard and have it crushed, and other than standing there shaking my head and wondering why someone would do such a thing, I really wouldn't care. But if say someone does this then says hey what do you think about that, I gonna tell you I think your a jack***.
And I would hope people would do a lil research as to whats legal and illegal but if you go by the sheer number of people on here and ohter message boards, not much research is done. lol
The impound part is the fact that since the vehicle can NOT legally pass a federal or state inspection and emission test it will be deemed not road worthy. Therefore will be towed and impounded until all fines are paid and repairs made and inspected. Now most cops won't even check this, even on a routine traffic stop. However all states have inspection and emissions laws. Some are no more stringent then the federal DOT laws, and some are far more stringent. Never the less at any point a vehicle is driven on public roads the vehicle must be able to pass a safety and emission test. Even states that don't a required yearly inspection still have spot inspections that the vehicle can be subject to. And the MIL lamp on the dash is all the excuse a state DOT cop will need to do an "enhanced inspection" of the vehicle. FWIW I'm not trying to be jerk about this. I'm simply just trying to inform those that don't know the laws, and hopefully keep them from making what can be a costly mistake.
IIRC your system is either 49/50 state legal. Meaning that your system meets all the federal emission requirements as well as most if not all states. The only state it may not meet would be California. And yes some states for example Cali, Pa, and NY, not to mention some others have more stringent laws then then federal gov.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
So I had to go back and read all this drama .
So OP ddbck, with the white truck from Wyoming, said he was going to get a "true duel" system, but later said it would be a Catback system. Then posted pics of the back of
the truck showing the exhaust tips (Semper Fi and it looks cool.), and
said it was a Catback system.
Isn't that completely legal everywhere? He didn't mess with the catalytic converter, so why get an emissions check, or make the statement about being legal as long as he
stays in Wyoming?
Now for the confusing part. Another member, Go on3 posted pics, of a black truck that
actually got a "true duel" system, which I'm sure is federally illegal, but if you live
in a local like i do that doesn't do emissions checks, I don't see how you'd get caught.
Here, and in most of Utah, which doesn't do emissions checks, you'd be in more trouble getting caught with a
couple of cases of beer from Wyoming in the back of the truck, then illegal pipes.
I question whether it's all worth it, and would like to hear more about it. Lots of people
took Cats off in the 70s and their buggys ran better. But today with these computerized,
balanced systems, I question whether you're getting anything benefit from it,
other then perhaps more noise, and the feeling of "beating the system."
Am I the only one that confused ddbcks truck with the photos from Go on3?

I'll try to answer a recent comment regarding gains being worth it, etc ... My build has been a few years in the making with many different combinations of power adders, wheel choices, suspension, etc. There's no doubt that some mods can be misleading as advertised, some mods work better when combined with other mods, and some need attention to aftermarket programming for best results.
The following comments are based off my personal experience and I'm not trying to imply that it is the right thing to do, legal, better than anyone else's but can honestly tell you that it has been the best combo for my truck for performance and economy. The factory muffler, although big and heavy actually flows pretty well. I originally started with a Flowmaster 10 series muffler. It sounded great but had a drone on the highway. I removed the resonator, which helped but wasn't impressed with power gains
Went with Bassani x pipe and dual Bassani mufflers by cutting original exhaust pipes at the factory "y" location giving the truck true duals, a increase in power, but was quietier than the sound I was looking to achieve.
At that time my truck had basic bolt ons and with programmer, cold air, cat back exhaust and running 91 octane I would average in the mid 19 range mpg on highway with the best being 22 mpg. Later I worked with Procharger to develop a supercharger kit for the 11-up truck using my truck and before you know it, I was turning my attention for ways to make the truck breathe efficiently, switched to Boss intake bought Kooks long tube headers.
Turns out the headers were only able to fit a Mustang , even after my fabricator performed allot of work with most attention to passenger side.I was instantly put into a funk after the headers didn't work but blown away with the results gained by switching to 3" off road mid pipes !!! Truck sounds like no other truck in my area. Very distinct sound that can be described as incredible.. under wot, truck sounds nasty as can be and gets allot of compliments.
How much power did I gain ? I have dyno sheets proving a solid 38 RWHP gain and it averages 25 mpg on highway, crusin at 75 with making 520 RWHP on a Mustang dyno (translated to 600 + on a Dynojet and nearly 700 hp at crank )
Although my set up may not be legal by standards, it performs well and even hated on... Hated by the 427 camaro leaving a local cruise over the weekend. His window was down and I'm sure the exhaust note was ear piercing as it echoed off his car until the truck hooked and ran away from him")
