I am going to be pulling a dual axle car trailer with 2 ATVs on it, a Can-am side by side, and 2 Polaris sportsmans will be on my flat bed, I am headed up to VT for the long weekend and it's about a 4 hour trip and I don't want to worry about anything!
I just replace my turbo, and IPR, and fresh fuel filters and an oil change.
Driving normally I'll see 9-12* spread between the two.
I'm unsure how much weight the truck will really be pulling but I know it's A LOT of up hill highway most of the way there-and I don't want to push the truck to hard. What are safe temps to be within while towing?
The EOT/ECT spread you speak of is less of a worry when towing, don't be alarmed seeing 15 or more. You basically just don't want the truck to over heat. I'm sure you'll be seeing 220+ EOT easily and the fan will be getting it's work out but i'm sure all will be well
I would back off the pedal a bit IF EOT goes to 225 until it cools a bit. Your deltas are not that bad yet, but it looks like the oil cooler will need to be changed in the future. I'm guessing you are checking your deltas with highway travel at around 65 mph?
That's not that bad, my Ford mechanic says if you see 15 degrees your clogged. Ever since my repairs/bulletproof the most I see are about 4 degrees difference and that's beating on it. However, on my last trip I did some steep trails ( the kind that will make your transmission temps climb 40 degrees) and I saw a short lived 6 degrees off. I just posted this pic for another thread.
It was taken this morning for a thermostat comparison at 65mph for 10 miles.
if u have ur egg cooler deleted, then tats gonna throw off ur delta a little bit too. as long as u stay within the 15 degree spread, u should be fine. if i keep her on cruise control at about 60 or 65 mph, and consistently for about at least 30 miles, and the truck's been warmed up, and we get gradual up and downs off the freeway, i get about 9 to 11 degree spread. i run ELC, did my flush way back when, new thermostat, oil cooler was new back then in 2011 or 2012, and it's still the same. but key thing to note is when i ease off or come to a stop, and within a minute at most, it drops a couple of degrees for oil temp. so tats how i know stuff is working like it should. lol.
whats weird is i never seen my coolant temp go above 180* I do not know if my thermostat is stuck open possibly?
I might throw a new oil cooler in it this week I don't want any issues
You need a new t-stat. There are some on the forum that have had 12 degree spreads for years and they never got worse. Just keep a level head and don't let the truck scare you.

So, I got my new thermostat here.....Going to install it and see what happens...might be a good time to install the 6.4 banjo bolts I have sitting here...

When pulling the toy trailer up hills, I will get my ECT's up to 219 when my fan clutch engages and it jumps back down to 215 or so.
My EOT vs ECT varies from 5-6* unloaded to 18* or so with hard pulling. It can be deceptive though, when you roll over the top of the summit and ECT's drop quickly but the EOT's take much more time to cool down, thus a bigger spread.
Flat towing usually runs about 12*. It seems to be the general census as pretty normal, especially pulling 13-14k.
