I have a 1992 Ford F150 Custom that I'm having a problem with the ignition key twisting off in the ignition switch. Has anyone had this problem and are there any suggestions on repairs to prevent this in the future? Also, I'm having a problem with the interior door handles breaking. Their made of a solid plastic material that breaks right at the bend as it comes out of the door facing. I'm working on the third set and it's beginning to get real frustrating.

My suggestion? Get a new key/ignition cylinder from Ford. It will come with a key, and it is really easy to replace (there are directions in posts in this forum somewhere).
In fact, get the set - Ford sells two new door locks and the ignition cylinder with two matched keys (because they're probably all wearing away since the thing is near 10 years old).
Question for the door handles - you, or other people, don't use them to close the doors, do you? I could see that messing them up fast.
Perhaps the rods in the doors are bent (or actually their bends got straightened out, making them a hair longer), or the doors need re-aligned, because if either is present then passengers would tend to pull harder & farther on the handles to get the door open.
If the actuator has lost all the lub from the area where it contacts the column then it will drag bad enough to make it feel like the lock cylinder is bad.
Hey Fhext,
I had the same problem it happened about 20 miles from home and I learned my lesson the hard way. You can get a ignition to match your door keys if you have the original paper work from ford or go to NAPA and get a quality ignition the steps are as follows: ( anyone correct me if I am wrong here!!)
1) Disconnect - battery cable
2) turn key to ON position
3) Insert an Awl or nail punch into small hole under ignition lock cylinder on steering column and push in the detente button
4) Gently pull out ignition cylinder- disconnect the "key on" buzzer wire terminal on the cylinder
5) install the new cylinder and reverse the directions.
Also, if you get lucky the old key will work the new ignition so you dont have to have two different keys for the door and ignition.
