I have never been so pi$$ed at a set of tires in my life. I went down to the beach with my girlfriend yesterday….and we decided to drive my truck up on the beach…well I put her in 4x4 and went on my way…dident have any problems and then I hit some wet sand…..and I started to dig into the sand….here I was in my Ford 4x4 and I couldn’t move in a bit of sand…I get out and my tires (stock) were so caked up that they felt bald. I couldn’t believe it…I HATE these stock tires and I really have to go get some BFG Mud Terrain’s. Ok I just had to vent. Talk to you all later!
Sand.... Wet sand usually works well, it's the dry stuff that can get ya. Sounds like you hit a seep. I haven't driven on the coast but I have driven in sand pits. When it's dry, axle hop is a real problem. Wet sand usually provides the best traction.
Tire speed and air pressure are important.
Mud tires are often referred to as grave diggers in the sand. A stock street tire will often out perform a radical mud tire.
Even though you have a 4x4, I was under the understanding that no vehicle is invisible to getting stuck. Sure, 4x4's have a great advantage over the rest of the field, but everything has its downfall. Like on ICE, 4 wheel drives that are in 4 wheel, would slip and slide more than a 2 wheel drive (more tires that can spin). So, if your running on super wet sticky sand, then yes, no matter what tread depth you have, it is bound to get stuck in them causing them to lose traction. Maybe I'm wrong, but just an idea. Although, it is strange that you got cought in wet sand, usually it is more rigid than dry.
