Surging Idle
I recently bought a 88 f250 with a 4.9 inline six and 5 speed tranny. It was an old grandpa's truck so only 54k original miles on it wooo!
Anyways, the truck is in great shape except for an idle issue. Truck starts up great and runs good but as soon as it starts to warm up a bit it develops an idle problem. It bounces around from 500 rpm up to 1000 anytime you push in the clutch or take it out of gear. Driving around in gear its fine, but almost stalls out at stop lights because the rpms drop so low. It seems somewhat random too, sometimes it barely does it at all and other times its so bad its embarrassing. Although it has been doing it pretty persistently recently.
Has anyone had similar issues that can give me a lead as to what the problem is? I pulled the codes and got nothing besides the test complete code. Checked fuel pressure and it was right around 40 while running and surging. Replaced the air filter and plugs, wires, and dizzy are all new.
