Rebuilt Questions

Well it looks like my 70,000mi. 351w is done for and I will be getting a new one under warranty. First off they will most likely rebuild it as cheep as possible and just get a short block, how much more do long blocks usually run? As I may be able to pay them the extra cost for it. Second we have a rebuilt at work that’s nothing but trouble is this common for rebuilts or just a fluke? I’ve never rebuilt an engine and know very little about it so if theirs anything I should watch out for or try and persuade them to do please let me know.

The warranty company has not told me what their going to do yet but when they do I'll let you know.

your looking at about two grand for a long block but if you can afford it, that the way to go. you shouldnt have any problems with a short block as long as you stay with a reputable company. If some else is doing the work you have to watch it because they are going to get the cheapest they can so they can make more profit. Your best bet is for you to price one and maybe buy it and have your shop install it. If they wont you might want to find another shop.

Rebuilt Questions

well apprently before i owned my truck the engine was rebuilt after 30K or so by the factory because of a major foul up. when I bought the truck with the odometer reading 82000 +/- it ran fine and the only engine problems I have had since were my valve cover gaskets going bad and the oil pump going mad and taking the main seal with it. So not to much. now as for the tranny thats a diffrent stroy. (rebuilt once and had to replace the main seal once)
