Water in Fuel Light

I have a 2006 F250 with the 6.0 Power Stroke & I'm having an issue of the WIF light. I have drained the water out 4 times now & also ran the tank down to about 2-3 gallons left & fueled back up from a different location. The light still comes on within 10-15 minutes of driving. I have also replaced the fuel filters. What am I missing or doing wrong?

When you drained it, did water actually come out?

If no water is coming out, you may have a bad WIF sensor.

Had to drain mine about 6-7 different times to get all the water out then replaced the filter.

Yea, you may just have a bunch of water in your tank.....it may take awhile to get it all out.

may have to get some carb cleaner and spray it up in the water drain. Mine had a lot of orange gook up in there.

In my case, you'll need to take the HFCM apart and clean it out really good with carb cleaner. It took me two cans to get the light off.

Same here, WIF lite about twice a week, drained only to find diesel. I put front and rear driver side up on ramps to give more angle to the drain. No WIF since, almost 16 months now.

Great advice here, but may I recommend brake cleaner vs. carb so no residue is left behind. But if there is no indication of water in the fuel which does not mix well with diesel., then take the hfcm filter out, along with the drain bolt and go to town with at least two cans of brake cleaner, you will see all kinds of garbage, mold, and gunk I bet.

That's how mine did for awhile. Until the final drain. I first ran the tank down as far as possible then siphoned out about 3 gallons of fuel--of that 3 gallons there was about half a gallon of water. Still had some fuel in the tank. I used cleaner as stated in other posts, changed both fuel filters then had to drain the HFCM every week for a while. I also ran down the tank as far as I could before I filled up. Everytime I did the drain I had the truck at an angle so I could drain as much as possible. On each drain there was less and less water--the first drain after the above filter changes and such there was maybe a cup of water out of half a gallon of fuel and just got lower amounts from there. The final drain when I did an oil change was zero water and all has been clear since. I attribute the water in mine from 10 gallons of fuel I put in when i was test driving the truck before I bought it--since I've only gotten fuel at one station--will be nervous when I get stuck out somewhere where I have to fill up that I don't know lol.

I've only had my truck about two years. I have never had a Light come on or any water when I drained it. When I first got the truck I was draining every other weak just to be sure. I then went to once a month now I just do it when I do an oil change.
