i just got cherry bombs on my truck it a 94 f-150 with a 4.9 straight 6. it definalty gives a deeper tone but its not that loud i noticed that on this truck ford has 2 cats and this could be part of my problem my dad say that they(cats)have like bb's in them and that i could drill a hole in in them and get rid of the bb's if u know how to do this please tell me or if u know something better tell me that im not worried about it being legal but i want to keep the converters so it looks legal all they have to do is sit there they dont even have to function
The only time there would be anything like BB's in a cat is if the cat was falling apart. The insides of a working cat are like a honeycomb. Drilling a hole in them won't do anything but cause a leak. If you want better flow and a louder exhaust, install a good quality, high-flow catalytic converter from Catco, or one of the other companies that make them. It may not seem important to "keep it legal", but it really is the best thing to do.
If i were you I would keep the exhaust manifold because it is split anyways if its a 94 cause its EFI and do a true duel exhaust setup with two cats and two glasspacks (Id prefer Flowmaster mufflers instead but thats just me). I dont think headers for a I6 are much better than the stock exhaust manifold
youd have to take that last statement to silver streak over in the I6 forum....hes currently at a 16.9 or so with 145 rwhp...thats 167hp at the flywheel. he may be running other mods (injectors, msd i think, have to ask him), but not that many that directly increase hp except a full exhaust including headers.
point being, they do help, and pretty significantly at that.
I would like to know from silver streak if headers really do help cause I ve read post about his truck and it sounds impressive but I still have a hard time believing they help. Also doesnt a stock I6 put out about 150 hp?? If thats the case silver streak only added 17 extra hp by the following mods that were listed msd, headers and bigger injectors. Im not trying to argue I just think headers arent worth the cost. silver streak I really would like you to reply so we can hear your input.
