Looking for folks who really know. Do Explorer 5.0L V8 motor mounts with frame brackets, radiator, oil pan and exhaust manifolds work to install a V8 into a Ranger? (I can pick up these pieces for under $150.00.) How far back to the parts retrofit? I have an '88 Ranger and am looking for an inexpensive way to swap a 289, C4 and 8" rear axle out of my totalled '66 Mustang. Would I need the Explorer V8 front coils or would my stock 2.9L V6 coils be strong enough? Since I'd be using a 2bbl, do I remove the efi computer equipment or just unplug it and leave it? I'm not concerned about the trans crossmember, driveshaft or spring pads on the rear axle; just the engine parts needed. Many thanks for anyone's attention.
Don't know. I did see motor mount plates for a V8 Explorer on ebay advertised as a Ranger V8 swap. They sold fast which I guess doesn't really mean much.
from what I understand...(I'm undertakin a simalar swap..351w)
mounts for the windsor engines can be easily fabricated...
just 1/4 plate steel cut to mount to the engine and existing motor mounts...the v6 has solid rubber mounts...
the 4banger rangers came with fluid filled mounts and this option won't work as the fluid filled mounts arent rugged enough to stand up the weight of even the 289..
the 351 is 40lbs heavier than a 302...I'm not sure what the weight difference is in a 289.
Looks like pingaling has the same swap book I have. I personally am going with aftermarket plate adapters so that I can use some good v8 mounts.
I am curious about the Explorer stuff though.
