Would like some advise from Mark

I am in the process of changing out the rms in my 03 v10. I got the drive shafts off and unbolted the transfer case. I wiggled it out and got to enjoy a dribble of trans fluid on my left shirt pocket. The gasket between the trans and trans was trashed.

My question is, looking at the picture of the rear of he transmission, should their be a pool of fluid behind the "dam" at the bottom of this opening?

I included a shot of the area in front of this that looks like it has been wet for a while.

One more thing. The connector shown from the passenger side is wet inside with trans fluid also.

Do I need to do anything while I have these out???

I have gotten a OSS code in the past. Wonder if it has something to do with being splashed with transmission fluid

Hey, does anyone know of a good place to get a new gasket?

Thanks.

Cant help on trans questions but. You can probably call your local ford dealer parts dept. And pick up a gasket from them. There might be aftermarket ones out there. Try Rockauto. Or Amazon, ebay.

I usually give a lot of leeway when it comes to guys talking off-topic and getting a little pissy with each other because that's life, but my patience for BS is at an all time low right now.

I've cleaned the thread from extraneous BS and left it all tech. Please, let's keep it that way.

Thanks guys.

As for the answer, yes, there should be ATF behind that "dam". And that tailhousing gasket is a easy fix.

The seal on the front of the T case keeps the oil from the trans from leaking into the t case. The gasket between the t case and trans can be replaced with RTV silicone.

Actually is was just a little leak since there is no rubber seal back there, the oil is not enough to throw a code, and that avatar is annoying to me. I don't sugarcoat everything like people like. I don't know where to get the gasket.

Yes, the fluid is normal. I've bought those gaskets at auto parts stores. They are common.

You are getting sleepy.... You will follow your momma's advice..... You will refrain from saying anything if you can't say something kind.... You will send every FTE member $1 for every intolerant comment you make towards another person's post....you will wake up and be happy go lucky and not expect everyone to do things the way you do...... 3...2...1...open your eyes. Have a great life!

The oil is due to the leak at the trans/transfer case marriage? Or is there another issue that the OP needs to address?
