VIN tag decoding
VIN tag decoding
Its been about a year since I picked up the 74 F500 tow truck, (thanks for the info NumberDummy) https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post13335078 The truck is looking great.
Now we are trying to buy another truck. This one is a F750 wrecker. I need help again in decoding this truck. Here is the trim tag.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Interesting. I can't wait until NumberDummy decodes the VIN. I would think this would have a F VIN number and not a N, as well I have never seen a truck rated at 27.5k with 6 lug wheels?
I hope to learn something here!

The pic of the truck is the 74 F 500 I bought last year. A friends uncle had a tow shop and he passed a year or so ago. I am now trying to buy a F 750 ( the vin plate), but don't know a lot about the truck, so I was hoping for some help.
F = 391 4V FT engine.
V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.
U46840 = 1974.
184" Wheelbase.
L = Holly Green.
N760 = LN750 (gas), 27,500 lbs. GVWR
4A8: 4A = Heavy Duty Black Vinyl / 8 = Standard Cab without Butterfly Hood.
2 = Clark model 282V 5 Speed Direct.
GHN:
GH = Eaton model 17221 Two Speed Rear Axle / 6.50/8.87 / 18,500 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.
N = 9,000 lbs. Capacity Ford Front Axle with P/S.
27,500 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
420550:
42 = Cleveland OH Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
0550 = Domestic Special Order number. Truck special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."
Well that makes a whole lot more sense - why not post a picture of the truck you are looking at? BTW that is a sharp looking F500!
Anyways, I understand now that it is a Louisville series, makes sense with the N prefix.
