I HAVE A 1996 FORD EXPLORER AUTOMATIC 4X4 4.0L V6 WITH TOW PACKAGE. I WANNA CHANGE THE DIFF FLUID ON BOTH FRONT AND REAR. WHAT FLUID DO I USE AND HOW MUCH IN EACH? WHAT TOOLS DO I NEED? HOW HARD IS IT? HOW MUCH FRICTION MODIFIER TO THE REAR? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP
The rear uses 90w gear oil with 8oz(i think) of the friction modifier if you have a limited slip (which you do if you have the tow package.
They sell the friction modifier in the exact size you need.
My 95 dana-ifs35 front end uses a synthetic fluid (not supposed to need changing) a 100,000miles. But even the ford dealers ussualy put regular 90w back into it on a change. it just means you have to change it every 50,000 or so
