Cigar / Cigarette Lighter and Socket

My understanding is that lighters were optional, at least in 1972. In any event, my truck does not have one, though it does have the hole in the dash where one would go. The paint is unmarked, so I think there was never one there.

If I want to install one, mainly for charging a phone or running a 12V air pump, and I also want it to be able to look stock, meaning I want the socket AND the lighter w/ bezel, I am a bit confused:

Dennis Carpenter has what appears to be all three pieces for Dentsides, but only the element and well for Bumpsides. Will the Dentside kit not work or look right?

In the LMC catalog, I can't tell if I need 16, 17, 18, or some combination of those.

NPD is similarly confusing. It appears they have no **** at all for Bumpsides.

Also, is there any difficulty finding the right type of female wire to connect the socket to power?

It looks to me like you would need #16 from LMC or the complete $25 kit from DC.

The wiring may already be in your truck. Check for a space in your Fuse Box marked "Lighter" or "Cigar". Probably a 15 Amp or 20 Amp fuse. There should be a wire with an unused female connector under the dash near where the lighter would be located. It may be a Blue wire with a White stripe. It plugs in to the back of the "Lighter" assembly.

There should also be a small Light Blue wire with a Red stripe. This wire is for the little bulb on top of the "Lighter" socket assembly.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips, Cruiser.

Anyone purchased any of these kits able to say whether one is better than another?

No such thing!
1967/72 F100/750: The lighter fuse (FEW-14429-A) is barrel shaped, has a male and female end.

The female end threads onto the male stud of the socket, the plug of the wire pushes onto the male end.

1973: Ford replaced the 1967/72 **** & element (C8TZ-15052-A) with the 1973 type (D3TZ-15052-A). Ford did not sell the **** only.

1973: Ford also replaced the element used 1967/72 with the 1973 type. It will work on 1967/72's, but the '73's ash guard (marked LIGHTER) is smaller in diameter than the original.

1967/72 F100/750: The dealer installed lighter kit (C8TZ-15A044-A) came with the wire, so I doubt it's present in the OP's truck. The kit does not include the fuse.

So the 73 kit would work, it just wouldn't match the other ***** and bezels exactly? If that's the case, $25 looks a whole lot better than $125, especially since most of the time there will be a phone charger plugged into the socket.
