Has anyone been able to use their Y block motor and adapt it to a newer upgraded transmission. If so, I would like some suggestions. I would like to add an automatic with overdrive in my 1956 build. Psmith1951
Thanks for all the information. How satisfied were you with the C4 in the 1956 Fairlane compared to before? I would like to keep my 312 Y block in my build, but I want more efficiency on the road with a later automatic trans. I have a good C6 transmission that I could use and I have access to several of the C4 transmissions. psmith1951
I've got a truck Flat-O but haven't got it put in yet. I also bought a car Flat-O bell housing and flex plate at a swap meet. I got the rest of the stuff from Gene at Flat-O to make it work but in order to install it in a truck you'd have to change to car motor mounts and add a transmission crossmember for the C4.
Trying to get the ole Y Block purring before I change it over to an automatic. Added a Ford ECZ 9425-B single 4 barrel intake, a Holley 390 CFM 4 Barrel, a Pertronix Ignitor III & Flame Thrower III coil. Still gotta work on the tune and add headers.

I am very happy with the C4. I have 3.22 gears and a mildly hopped up 312. Good power off the line and about 2700 rpm at 75 mph. I don't do that much freeway driving so overdrive was not a big concern. The C4 was cheaper and consumes less power to operate that most of the other trans options.
