Transit Connect Extended?

anybody driven the 2014 Transit Connect Extended ?? (long wheelbase).

I saw one yesterday, is it front wheel drive? Is it bigger or the same as the Aerostar Extended? What do the reviews say about it?

I've been driving a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan in my job. The quality of the fit and finish is horrible, they use tape (Yes, TAPE) to hide the seams and then paint over the tape.

but it handles like a race car, I am very impressed by the handling and the engine is no slouch either. The transmission shifts horribly. Also I do not like the McPhearson Struts, though I may be wrong about them because the van corners very flat around 80 mph.

and the A/C is very powerful, it copes great at 95 degree weather and during idling.

IMO, it is not an Aerostar.

I have been looking at them closely in the showroom floor and I just keep thinking, "there is no way I can get a 4x8 sheet in there." "When I go on a family trip, where do I Put the luggage? There is only about a foot of space between the 3rd seat and the hatch." "Everything is low, what will keep it from high centering in the snow we get?" plus much more. It is no where close to being as versatile as the Aero.

The XL (long wheelbase)'s only engine option is a 2.5L NA 4 banger FWD. The shorter version has an optional 1.6L I4 eco-boost, but again only FWD.

We do sell a lot of them to the local businesses as delivery vehicles, they have decent roof height, but they look to me like a bloated focus.

On the upside they go forever, reliable as all can get out. I have already seen some with 200k+ mi come in for oil changes and basic maintenance only. They have the latest gadgets and have a car like ride.

As a work vehicle, I would think that you would be happy with it, but as general purpose family hauler, it is not.

my .02.

I believe all Transit Connects are FWD. As with all FWD vans, they have a lower floor with no driveshaft to contend with. However, I'm not sure if the 2nd and 3rd row seats are removable like the Aerostar. If not, then that could eliminate any gain from the lower floor.

2014 TRANSIT CONNECT Long Wheelbase Specs:

Cargo Area (in.)
Cargo Length at Floor....................85.8
Cargo Length at Belt.....................76.7
Cargo Width Between Wheelhouse...46.9
Cargo Height Maximum...................42.2

Capacities (cu. ft)
Cargo Volume Behind First Row with 2nd-row seat folded...104.2
Cargo Volume Behind Second Row...................................58.9

only available with a 4 cylinder engine? that takes care of THAT.

non-removable seats? SEE YA!

I did fall inlove with another vehicle, the Lincoln MK-T (Ford is stealing Jaguar model names, like the MK-7, the "MK" designation was invented by Jaguar in the 1950's).

but the MK-T is useless as a wagon, the center Console extends to the rear seats, is not removable, and can only seat 2 people in the second row of seats. Talk about useless.

The MKT is just a redressed Flex, which is just a Taurus station wagon.

Again it can haul people (without luggage), but that is about it.

I noticed the American Pickers now have a Ford van, that looks to be about the same size as their old Mercedes Sprinter!
