camshaft problem??
I just finished installing my comp cam in my 460 . I put it in, bolted up the thrust plate, and noticed that the cam moves back and forth inside the block about 3/16 of an inch. is this normal? It dosnt move around when I tighten down the timing gear. BUT when i look down the lifter holes the lobes on the cam are too far toward the back of the motor. The lifters will not sit directly ontop of the lobes like this. The stock cam I pulled was too far back as well . Am I making a mistake, or is something out of whack. Any help to get me through this project this weekend. Thanks.

You do not want the lifters centered on the camshaft. They are offset so that the lifters spin and wear even. Mine was the same way and I haven't had a bit of trouble with it.
