replaced the starter about 6 months ago and it was running great. It sat for awhile and when I tried to start it the starter just turned without cranking over. I could get it to start by just bumping the ignition. I took the starter off and there was alittle damage to the flywheel teeth but not bad. I put the starter back on and hooked everything back up and tried to start it. It turned over but didn't start and kept turning over even when I removed the key. I had to disconnect the negative battery cable to kill it. What is really weird is that the starter will start if I touch the negative cable to the battery, and let me tell you there are some sparks. I replaced the cables because I thought there might be a short but it is still doing the same thing. A little advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks Mike
the solenoid might be bad, that is normally the case. im not sure how to fix that though, thats where my dad comes into play. im sure someone on here knows how to though.
Another thing you may want to try is: Look under the cover on the side of the starter. Check to see if there is anything arking or bent. This could be the cause of the solinoid going out and the hellatious sparks.
