PCV Hose 65 352

I can't seem to locate a PCV hose that has a 90 degree coming from the right valve cover where the valve plugs in. I'm using a straight hose and it looks wrong sticking straight up out of the valve cover and curving around to route under the carb. I am using the Edelbrock 14" aftermarket air cleaner. The left valve cover has an air breather and does not connect to the air cleaner. I have seen them both ways. Open or closed? This is a California truck made in California. Does it matter which system is used? I think mine is correct.
Thank you

I think 65 had not switched to the closed system. But by 66 closed was used for California trucks built and sold in California.

Here's a spacer plate and molded hoses for PCV and in this case also the power brakes with a splitter to go to carb and booster.

PCV introduced in 1961, was mandatory in all sold new in CA vehicles, possibly other states as well.

1961/64 292, 1965/66 352 oil bath air cleaner has a nipple made as part of it for PCV hose routing from nipple on oil cap located on left valve cover.

PCV valve fits into grommet on right valve cover, short smog hose clamps to valve, then clamps to curved metal tube. Smog hose clamps to metal tube, then routes to carb spacer plate.

Ahhh, so closed systems go back to 1961, very good to know. Thanks.

California, always the progressive state.

For 66, at least, they seemed to have at least those two styles of oil bath air cleaner, with the nipple that you mentioned (closed) or not (open) as I understand it. Was there two part numbers? I can see how they could have easily used one base and one lid but just punch a hole if the nipple was needed.

Some good pictures in this thread where we were talking about some of this before. You can read that 6t6merc also did not think the oil bath with the nipple was used in 65. Common misconception?

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...r-cleaner.html

Here's the reason I thought the type with the nipple was not used in 1965. Bear with me as my thinking tends to be backwards at times.

On textual section 60.7 page 13 at the bottom is the 6766 base numbered Oil Filler and Breather Cap Assembly. Just two listed at the bottom of the page.

The first one, the C8TZ-6766-A (EC-4) is shown as 66/67 Closed emission reduction and it says it has an outlet spout, so that makes it like the one in my first picture above and I and tbm3fan both show one in that other thread. Has nipple.

Also seen here on eBay. There are quite a few of these.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EC-4-MOTORCRAFT-OIL-FILLER-CAP-FORD-C8TZ-6766-A-/370757454504?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5652ddcaa8&vxp=mtr
The second one is the C3AZ-6766-D (EC-64) and is shown as 65/67 except T/E (thermactor emission control system) and except transistor ignition.

So, if we believe this eBay ad and what looks to be original packaging then the EC-64 does not have the nipple.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-66-67-68-Ford-oil-breather-cap-nos-Autolite-c3az-6766-D-/371095667900?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item56670684bc&vxp=mtr
And you think my carb spacer and hoses are not original? I think splitter and a couple of the clamps are not original and hose was cut and if so I was sold a load of goods, so to speak. Lol.
But feel free to discuss this in the meantime. I'll have more questions most likely.

Maybe we can get to the bottom of TBird Larry's question.

Well they are available as I have one on the truck and one on the Park Lane plus one spare. Probably NPD or Carpenter.

When you consider that C8TZ is a 1968 part number prefix, this oil cap would not have been original equipment on a 1966/67.

T/E ~ Thermactor Emission (smog pump) introduced initially in 1966 Passenger Cars & F100 352, mandatory in sold new in CA vehicles.

C8TZ-6766-D (replaced C4TZ-6766-B / Auto-Lite EC-31 - black-has straight spout) .. Oil Filler Cap-Use with em/re (Auto-Lite/Motorcraft EC-4) / Obsolete

1964 F100/700 292 / 1964/67 B/C/F/N/NT/T500/800 330/361/391 / 1965/67 F100/350 352.

btw: I have an original 1957/68 loose leaf paper truck parts catalog (printed 1/1968), C8TZ-6766-A is not listed!

That is the one for sure. None of the local parts houses had a number for the hose, only the pcv valve.
Thanks a bunch.
