My old 85 has been acting strange in first gear. You have to stand on it to make it go and then every now and then it does it in second gear it acts like now power is going through. Is it the clutch, slave clynder anyone know
i just changed the clutch pressure plate bearing etc. fought with putting the transmisson for over an hour until it finally went in. The truck takes off a little better but still putters along, shifts smooth but my clutch pedal is really soft when before you had to stand on it . so even though I didnt disconect the lines should i still bled it. any good ideas
I replaced the clutch master and slave cylinder three years ago. I made a tool to bleed the system from the bottom. Used a pump made for filling the lower unit of an outboard motor. Had to modify the end with a tapered bit that fit into the hole in the bleeder screw. This is messy, as it is difficult to hold the tube in place, pump the brake fluid and open and close the bleeder screw. I did it alone, but a helper would have been nice. A tool for this job can be had, but I don't know where to find one.
I bled mine just by working the slave by hand and keeping it tilted right. Now that I finally got the right clutch pedal shaft, bushing, & lever, it's tight. Pics are in my signature link.
