A/C compressor smoking question

I believe my clutch is shot in my 93 F-150. When I turn the A/C on the belt just slides over the pully, and the compressor ticks and only turn about a 1/4 turn. I'm just going to pull an A/C compressor from the junkyard so I don't have to hassle with taking the clutch off. I was wondering if Ford used the same compressors for all cars and trucks for that year. Would I be able to use a compressor from a E150, Windstar, or even a town car for example. If not, what should I look for in the part number? Never worked with on any A/C system before. Before I put the compressor on how do I evacuate the system and does the whole system have to be replaced of just flushed? It's a 93 with R12 so I'm going to have to convert. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You need to take the old one if possable. They have several ones and they have different mounting patters and hose locations. Your best bet would be a similiar year truck or maybe a full size car. I think the truck compressor may be unique to the trucks. The jukyard should have a mitchell interchange manual that will tell what all vehicles should interchange.
