The used truck market up here is nuts
I mean I wish I could afford a new truck but if you add anything to them they go from like $25,000 to $40,000 in a hurry. I simply can't afford that at 20 years old. Hell, when I take out my loan I'm going to have to use a family member's credit to get my interest rate because I don't have enough built up. Around here though, 7% is really high from what I've heard so I imagine i'll be in the 4-5% area or something. I have absolutely no idea though.

Anyway, I've seen some really, really nice and clean looking 2008 F150's that look almost brand new that are in the upper teens and lower 20's like Tiny said with sub 100k miles on them. I think that's a somewhat good deal.

I still don't know what is "common" for these 5.4 triton motors to hit mileage wise though. I'm hoping 250k isn't out of reach.

My 05 just rolled over 142k. Post pics when you get a truck. My truck doesnt have the center console and I am fine with that because the middle seat still pulls down as a console sorta..it has cup holders and storage, plus I can push it up an fit another person or object up front if needed.

I have a 2006 XLT with the 60/40 split front. I rarely need the center seat up front (3 times since I bought the truck in '08 for $15K with 42K miles). I have had zero problems except for the sparkplugs died at 104,250 miles which isn't bad in my opinion. And now I have a weird growl in the steering when I go left at speed, but not when I go straight or right. For over 60K miles of me driving it with nothing other than brakes and tires and regular maintenance the F150 is an outstanding vehicle in my opinion. The Lariat is overpriced in my opinion but I am looking for the grey seats out of a wrecked one because the cloth seats stain if you look at them or get a drop of water on them. I'm a little biased because I have been buying Fords since 1979, but I can't beat them to death, I usually drive them to the junkyard with more miles on them than you would believe (595,000 is my record for one I DROVE to the junkyard), regular oil changes with a new filter every time you change the oil is the only nice treatment my trucks get! I drive 'em like I stole 'em and the rightful owner is behind me with a shotgun.

Most Bang for the buck

Depending on what the O.P. plans for the truck, there are some decent options for good trucks out there. Unless you 'need' a 4x4, watch for 4x2's as they can be gotten for a good price at times because most want the 4x4's for the image of driving one though most never get further offroad than the parking lot. Add to that if it's not the most desirable model, it can also improve the price you'll pay.
In 2009 I found a 07 heavy half (8200 gvw) XLT SCab 4x2 with a 8' box. 5.4L, auto, 4.10 read end with 22K on the odometer - got it for about $12K IIRC + tax and license (yes that is the correct cost). I wanted a long box because of moving bulky items at times so this fit the bill nicely.
I had to travel to L.A. to get it but even with the cost of driving it back, it was about $5K better than anything I could find near me. When I was looking, Texas through Calif seemed to be the best places to find 4x2's and Calif seemed to have the best prices for comparable trucks. This one had sat on a dealers lot for about 5 months, so they were wanting to move it and were really willing to deal on it. Mine was undamaged, untouched and in fact had not had anything in the box since new as far as I could tell.
Only real thing I did was have the 2 piece plugs changed out right away for Champion 1 piece plugs and that's been it for almost 60K miles other than normal maintenance. It gets around 15 mpg around town and almost 20 mpg on the highway so I'm happy with it.

Actually, the console shifters have had more problems than the column shifters.
