BII carburetor adjustment

I have an '85 Bronco II with a 2.8 liter. I know just enough about carburetors to be dangerous. I tried a minor choke adjustment and it just made it worse. I couldn't get it back to where it was so I had to adjust the fast idle just to get it to run. But the RPMs are way to high and if I keep driving it I'm afraid I'll blow it up. Can somebody give me some information on carburetor adjustment or tell me where I can get some information? I've had it for 3 and a half years and haven't had to take it to a shop yet, I'd like to keep it that way. Thanks in advance.

BII carburetor adjustment

I would get a good carb book and trouble shoot from there.... it sounds like my carb - and the shop wanted $1k for the carb and tune-up.... I hate going to dealers at $70 an hour (three times what I make on a good day).

Check for leaks outside the carb itself - leaks where two halfs come together in other words. Doing the "increase the ideal speed" may not damage your engine, but it makes for poor driving around town, let a lone in bad weather with snow and ice.

Spray some carb cleaner (while the engine is running) around the base of the carb, fuel and vaccum lines, and see if the rpm goes up -- this is (in my opinion) cause to worry about either air or fuel getting a bad mixture from bad gaskets, or cracks in the carb body.

Right now I'm doing research on the carb that's in my 84BII... since the tag is missing I'm going to take pictures and send these to a rebuilder to get the replacement.... for the cost of the carb and my time I hope to be back in the saddle in no time.

OH, check the library under technology for the manuals -- get the factory manuals, I really don't like those other manuals they sell at the auto parts places.
