Yep, I think you fixed it before I finished my reply. Two ships colliding in the night.

So, 4:10s @ 70mph in 4th, direct, is 3,100rpm. Hardly screaming, sounds right to me.

Your data sticker on the door jamb will have an axle code you can look up and get the ratio. Also, the axle itself will have the ratio stamped on a tag attached to the cover via one of the bolts. Provided no one removed it when servicing the axle.

What if the door jam sticker is gone and so is the ratio tag. How would you figure the ratio then? Just Curious since that's my situation?

I'm assuming it's a 4:10 since it's a 1 ton truck.

the gear ration is also stamped on the ring gear if you take the cover off, also you can mark the tire and count the turns of the drive shaft, but I can't seem to get that method to work for me.

I have seen 1 tons with 3.55, but most are 4.10
