So I was driving home going about 30 and I hear a grind and my 4 hi light came on. I was just about home so I kept going but about 50 feet later my truck jerked and shifted into 4low. I didn't touch the switch at all. I turned it off and went thorough the steps to take it out but it didn't work. 2005 f250 fx4. The hubs wern't engaged. How can I fix it?
I would pull the shift motor off and see if you can manually put it back in 2wd. I did this on a 2k f250, when you remove the shift motor there was a round shaft with 2 flat sides on it. Turn that to shift the t case.
You've got a short somewhere. Switch, shift motor, or somewhere in the wiring harness. I would start by pulling the switch and try to jump the electrical and see if the shift motor will respond properly.

Just for the heck of it I took a look in my relay box for the four wheel drive switch and water poured out of it. (Just went through the car wash) could that have been what caused it? Usually when I turn the switch I hear them click but now i don't

Well crap if I was going much faster I bet my transfer case would be history lol. But I'll get a couple more relays and see how she does and let ya know

Oh another detail I didn't mention is before the 4x4 lights came on I heard a terrible grinding noise for like half a second. Is that just because I was moving or is it more than just a faulty relay?
That was probably low range trying to engage while you were moving. Need to be stopped to shift into low. But those transfer cases are pretty tough. I wouldn't worry about it at this point.
