Anybody have insight into how the little Off Road tilt and lean indicator works. What does it read to get the information? Mine does not work very well. I spent most of last week in the mountains and the up down doesn't work. I would be going up very steep hills and the display would say 1 degree. When I was coming out of Boone down an 8 percent down grade the indicator said 2 degrees. Ordinarily I don't care about stuff like this but given what I paid for this truck everything should work. I couldn't find any thing on it in the manual except that it's there. Should I be doing something or taking it to Ford.
Not sure how if figures the stuff, but when I was in Colorado doing some off road trails it seems to work pretty good.
I wonder if you have to be in 4wd to get it work? I was in 4wd when I turned to the display for it.
Don't know, book didn't say anything, at least I don't think it did. First chance I get I'll try it. BTW, I remembered to measure the drop when I hooked up the other day but it was raining so hard I didn't do it.
When I was in Colorado in June, I used it extensively. We did well over 100 miles of pretty rough 4 wheeling. It seemed to be very accurate as there was some places we were at 14% incline and my Brother in Law who was in his jeep in front of us with his inclinometer (Inclinometer, Digital, with clock and temperature) showed similar. It did not make any difference with 2wd or 4wd. I was so impressed I checked it on the highway pulling the 5er and on Raton pass it was showing 4% and up to 6% grade the last 2 miles as it should. Now something that I did before I left Texas was I recalibrated. I don't know if that may have something to do with it or not, just a thought.
I'll check mine out next week when I head back up I 17 it's got a nice 8% grade and a couple of smaller ones before i turn off on US 69 to Prescott.
I gotta say that run up thru there to just before Munday is a challenge for most anything. I used to have a class A and I worked back and forth from Page to Gila Bend and did that run nearly every week for 7 years....Holy Cow, going up or down, you had better be on your best. Did it in snow once from the top to Camp Verde.....after that if they were calling for snow, I pulled over and waited it out....dang.....
If the traffic is light enough when i make that trip this 6.7 just purries going up that grade maintaining the speed limit is not a issue it just slow poke traffic.

I had that question and asked my dealer. They said to go ahead and use the calibrate app on your dash. It should calibrate the GPS/Compass as well as set what is level. Just make sure you are in a large very level area and drive in a circle several times slowly as stated in your manual. I guess it helped, I am not sure it was off in the first place.
According to our Manuals, the calibrate only does the compass calibration. I don't know if there is any truth to what they told me, but I did what was recommended and no issues.

I am not sure how the truck senses the pitch and roll angles, but our display is in degrees. The road signs gives us % grade .... big difference. Tangent of the angle x 100. 45 degrees = 100% grade. 10 degrees = 17.6%. 5 degrees = 8.7%. 1 degree = 1.7%.

Or in my case 21%...I did have a 14 deg a few times as well.

Last spring I did a slope in the northwestern New Mexico gas fields, up and down, at 23 degrees (42%). I had 2/3 of a tank of fuel and did it in 4x4L M1 to creep her. Got my wife's blood pressure up a tad going down as she seemed to be standing on the sloped portion of flood board. Traction was good and the truck did not even hesitate.
Report of trip up I 17 with inclinometer showing. the most that it showed will going up the 8% grade was 2% had more indication with the side slope some curves showed 5% change the most i got was going down hill and that was the 2% reading.
