1990 F250 4x4 351W (was rough idling) now starting problems
Need some help please
I have a 1990 F250 4x4 with a 351W in it..I just bought a year ago and has had a new engine rebuild probably around 4 or 5 years ago and the lady I bought it from bought another truck and used this one on the farm only.....when I bought it it ran like a bat out of hell..very good....and I have driven it everyday since last August...so a couple of weeks ago I hear a ticking sound..found out it was the coil wire arcing. From the wire to the coil itself replaced the wire and the coil...Problem Solved
Then it was idling rough..and had a loud air sound coming from it...wasn't an exhaust leak..all I could get was 3 mph out of it..no power when try to accelerate....so parked it and although it would crank it would idle rough
Found where the air was coming from...rust hole in the egr valve tube...replaced that..still idling rough and try to give it gas it wants to die....changed the egr valve itself..same thing...rough idle try to give it gas it wants to die.....still sounding like it is not getting enough air..so I changed the idle air controller..
Now it won't start....just turns over and wants to start everyone in a while....took the air hoses off..plenty of suction coming into the throttle body
Seems like it is getting plenty of fuel pressure...I opened the valve on the fuel rail and gas shot out of it there....I don't have a sure way to check fuel pressure
I have not changed the fuel filter....I hear the noise (connection being made) to the fuel pump when I turn the key on.....
This truck has set up for a while before I bought it..so the parts I changed probably needed to be changed anyway
This thing ran damn good for the last year and all of a sudden this....I am not an auto mechanic but I know a little about a little..LOL....and this is throwing me
Any help would be appreciated.....by the way...I am restoring this truck....no old Fords need to be just sitting.......LOL
Thanks in Advance...Kelly

Fuel pump possibility
I had a 93 Bronco 351W for many years. I had a similar problem to yours, it would die out when giving it gas, and lacked power. Then it died completely.
After some investigation, I discovered that I had spark, fuel, and air. I too could hear the pump running when I turned the key. On a side note, the float in the gas tank had a hole in it and the fuel gauge wasn't working. Long story short, replaced the fuel pump to fix the gauge and everything cleared up! Although it was getting gas, apparently it didn't have the required fuel pressure.
Good luck
