Referencing back to Chadw's question, should he continue to use higher octane gasoline? Or should he try to clean out his MAF sensor and throttle body? If he continues to use higher octane, does it hurt anything or damage the engine if the MAF and throttle body aren't cleaned?
When I spoke to a local Ford mechanic, he told me taht it's normal to use a higher octane for a vehicle with higher mileage.........
I don't see a problem with using the higher octane, I mix in a little 93 to stop my minor ping in the summer with the AC on. Same with the cleaning and if the MAF is dirty it should be cleaned.
The only reason I can think of right now for an older engine to need the higher octane ios carbon build up.
I was reading in the owners manual of the '02 Ranger we had where I used to work. It said to only use 87 octane, as the higher octane fuels can actually contribute to carbon buildup.
I fueled my truck with 89 octane along with a bottle of Chevron Techron and amazingly most of the "pinging" sound went away. It still pinged when I went up a steep hill.....maybe I'll try 92 next time? Thanks everyone.
