I have noticed on both my transmissions, that they shift out of 1st @ 10 mph.
I pull out of my street onto a busy 2 lane road.
Tranny shifts to second as I start up a 5 to 6 percent grade.
very poor response from engine and transmission, unless I push accelerator to floor, whitch shifts it back to low with full accelerator, and the subsequent high rpm's, just to be able to pick up speed.
I had the 2012 checked and they say there was nothing wrong.
The 2011 is doing the same thing.
Any ideas, suggestions, appreciated.
I am too danged old to fool with the manual shifting thing.
The plug in SCT tuner and you can reprogram your shift points, increase line pressure its not that expensive and you can put it back to stock for dealer work. Thats my suggestion Anyone else?
Taking the suggestions to start in Tow/Haul mode, I tried it and it did prolong the up shift some.
I also tried starting in manual and then moving the lever to drive when I reached what I thought was a good speed, and moved the lever to Drive. Tranny shifted to third, which was a few seconds too soon for me. I think I will try Manual and manually shift to second before going to drive. I just don't like doing the manual thing. Thanks you guy's for replying. Jim
I think the problem is your driving style. The truck thinks you are Slow McGramps because you're too gentle and too late on the throttle. Roll in to the throttle sooner and it will stay in gear and scoot at half throttle. You just need to get more aggressive and better anticipate what's coming next.
I have the same problem by shifting manually does that mean start out in Tow/Haul mode i'm easy on the gas pedal these 6 speed trans with Ecoboost like to be driven more agressivly when taking off.
On the XLT, Ihave an M in the gear indicator below drive, and a button on the side of the gear shift, to shift up or down.
This setup was not on the XL.
It only bothers me when I am entering the highway, from my street, and wanting to get the hell up to speed, for the on coming traffic. If I get on it hard, i'll spin out.
Guy's I came from a 7.3, 4 speed to a 3.7 6 speed, so maybe it is just an old Geezer being to light on the throttle, and not used to hearing it rev. when I do get on it.
Thanks to everyone for all your help.
I see they have the X4 now, hmmmm I have the X3 and it shifts like it should. That was the biggest reason I went to Mike and the X3, I really disliked the stock shifting programming, especially after the slightly taller tires
You're making a slow turn and waiting to slam down the throttle until you're aligned to the runway for launch. If you smoothly roll in to the throttle during the turn, especially second half of turn, then it will hold a decent gear and be ready to go when you're aligned to the roadway without unweighting the inside tire causing wheel spin.
the 1-2 shift is what kills me, in stop and go traffic it wants to shift into second every time i start to move, I've started just putting it in manual mode on one stretch of road at 5pm and holding 1st gear until i hit the highway on-ramp.
I really need to get a SCT programmer as the shift pattern leaves so much to be desired. it wants to upshift way to soon.
With all they help provided, I have decided, I'll just have to make adjustments to suit my needs. Manual shifts coming out of my street on to the highway.
Thanks everyone for all the advice. Jim
