86 idi with 4speed

I'm looking at an 86 Idk f250. It has a 7.3 turbo swapped in with a 4 speed manual trans. So does that mean the trans was swapped as well? I thoight the 7.3 only came in a 5speed. Any ways. I currently have a 97 auto f250 4x4. Reg.cab. what would guys say is worth more both Reg cab and decent bodies in good running order?

The 4 speed sounds like the original tranny to the older truck. The 7.3 idi will bolt in where the 6.9 idi was.

Sounds like someone swapped in a 7.3 IDI and added the turbo. Lots of 7.3 turbo kits out there. The Powerstroke (7.3L turbo factory build) had the ZF6 in it.

Powerstrokes had the same zf 5 speed. I believe it was later on when the 6.0's came out is when they had the 6 speed option.

My mom had an 02 F250 with the Powerstroke and six speed. Probably came with both ZF's

Did the 6.9 and 7.3 both share a manual fourspeed?

Hmm. I thought 87 was the first year for the 7.3. I know the ZF was available, but for whatever reason ford still offered the 4spd. Maybe they didn't have enough ZF's, maybe people didn't trust them, who knows, but I know you could still get the 4spd in 87 along with carbs on the 351 and 460.

Guess there never was a factory 7.3 with a 4spd. At least not in an F-series. Bells are the same, so I think the OP's truck simply had a 7.3 swapped in place of the 6.9 and they kept the 4spd.

They show the 7.3 in 1988, along with the 5 speed and no 4 speed. But they are not always right, and Ford did have a habit of introducing changes mid-year.
