cylinder head material

do they make aluminum heads for 300's

Rumored for many years, from Classic Inlines. They do offer one for the smaller sixes.

There is a race only head that was made by Alan Johnson for Ford Racing. It had no provisions for cooling - no water jackets.

Generally speaking, for an aluminum head to be as thermodynamically efficient as a cast iron head it needs at least another half point of compression ratio.

Now if you are looking to save weight and have the ease of repairability of aluminum plus a less expensive manufacturing process then I guess an aluminum head makes sense.
