Exhaust pipe studs

I'm getting ready to put a 5.0 into my '93 F150 and I attempted to put the first of the four exhaust pipe studs into the manifold. It got increasingly harder to turn and eventially broke. I got it out after a miserable headache of drilling, extracting, breaking the extractor, etc. I'm wondering if the problem was the aftermarket stud (Dorman Help brand) I used or is it common practice to retap the holes in such a situation? Original studs were removed by torch.

I always chase the threads in this type of scenario.

I'd do like the last fellow said and chase the threads and best yet make sure your getting them in correctly and not cross-threading by some chance, I doubt you are but its always a thought. Also make sure you have the right bolt as just the wrong thread pitch might let it start in but just get tighter and tighter until something gives. Since you bought studs made for the manifold it shouldn't be a problem though.
