Agreed. These projects typical end up costing at least twice what they were thought to cost(then sold on CL incomplete) or just an complete hack job

I did a 68 mustang 9 years ago. The car was complete with no rust and new paint. The only major thing I did was a engine and trans swap. I did all the work my self and still put close to 10k in it.

I understand what your saying, but when you start a project like this a lot of guys buy perfect parts, don't buy the show stuff. buy what you can afford and most of all KEEP IT SIMPLE. A part that's been reconditioned by you will have just as much appeal as a chrome one will. theres nothing wrong with rattle can paint, as a matter of fact it is easy to touch up if it gets scratched up during build. Don't try to build a show rig, build one that your proud of. I've got a lot of friends in Everett wa that always come to the show or gathering with what they have and its amazing at what some guys come up with because they can't/won't spend the high dollar. car guys are very resourceful at making do. Remember mustangs are a dime a dozen out there and ford put some really good parts on them and they can be adapted to your project with just a little research. you've already got the idea so I think you've got the ability to do the rest.
