John,

Don't think 6x9's will fit. I replaced those buster ford speakers with some 3 way pioneers. You can get them at Best Buy and they are made to fit Ford vehicles. I would suggest getting those!

They sound great when amp'd!

You would have to enlarge the speaker cut out hole and drill new screw holes to insyall the 6x9". I also installed the 6x8 Pioneers in the front because they were free. Kenwood also makes some good 6x8" . These should sound just about as good as 6x9"s and you won't have tu butcher the doors.

Most of your top car audio/video people, like Rockford Fosgate, Polk Audio, Kenwood, JL Audio, etc, have 6x8" speakers. 6x8's are almost identical to 6x9's, just a little smaller. They sound just as good though. So I wouldn't recommend going through the trouble of modifying the cutouts just to install 6x9's. Use the 6x8's. When you go buy some from a shop, just tell them your putting them in a ford. They'll understand.

I use this site for all my speaker needs. Really cheap and they should have plenty 5x8s. Likementioned above, just go with the 5x8s.
