226 Generator Pulley

Just figured out I don't have the correct pulley/fan for my truck generator. Apparently the 226 car version uses a much narrower belt than the truck does. I have the correct damper and water pump pulleys but I need the truck version of the generator pulley. The belt I believe is 7/8" wide. Anyone have a spare they wouldn't mind sending to a new home while making a buck or two?

Well, the 226 truck pulley has different part numbers, depending on your truck model.

The differences are the pulley diameter and bearing diameter. All of them are .76 wide. Disregard the yellow highlighted text. That's for my info only.

Thanks Jolly Roger Joe! It looks like I need part number 8HC-10130-A which is a type 1 (fan and pulley) with a pulley diameter of 3.32" and a overall diameter of 5.58" and a .76" pulley groove.

I can't find it available anywhere. I think your best hope is that someone here will have an extra...

I've got a couple extra 6 cylinder generators laying around. I'll take a look and see which pulleys I have. I'll send you a pm shortly.

I tried to add to your reps, but the system won't let me. I have to pass 'em around to those I don't think deserve it I guess. That "feature" really irks me.

I'm sure I have the generator that came with my truck-- 49 f1 with a 226. I swapped it out for an alternator and had a special pulley made for me that allows the 3/4" belt from the crank and water pump and a second 3/8" groove for my A/C compressor.
email me at wmrdalydvm@gmail.com and I'll get it to you asap.

I think the generator for the 226 is the same as the generator for the 239 V8. See if you can pick up a wide belt pulley from a V8 generator.

I thought so too, but the 6's belt is wider?? Different diameter too. Check the parts sheet above. So with two WP's and a generator to drive, the V8's used a narrower belt?

I suspect the V8 pulley width would work with the 6 cylinder belt even though it is not 100% correct. The generators are the same, just the pulley is different. What I don't know is if the offset for the belt is different between the engine types. I will try to remember to look tomorrow when I am cleaning on my Dad's shop. I have a complete 254 and a complete 239 to compare.

If I remember correctly, the 239 uses the narrower 5/8" belt to drive the generator and the water pumps but uses a 3/4" belt to drive the fan. The 226 uses a single 3/4" belt to drive the water pump/fan and the generator. I believe the offset is the same between the two engine generator pulleys but the diameter is slightly different (no big deal) with the pulley width being the big difference unless you want to run a 5/8" belt on a 3/4" damper and water pump which I prefer not to do.
