You and others are prob more than right.

I know to most it may seem like a foolish thing to do but.... I enjoy taking care of my truck as much as i can and for my own piece of mind its worth the $$$.

Since 1997 with all the vehicles I own and all the people I have helped, just me alone I have purchased for my own use around 250 gallons of lubricant instead of handling over 3000 gallons if I would of continued using traditional methods.
Not to mention all the extra run time from all my vehicles!

I am the real Green Job enabler!

Kinda the way i look at it, i like to flush money all the time, i drive my trucks like i stole them using plenty of fuel..my money to do with what i wish right? same with going out to dinner, the movies..ect all are a "waste" to some...

i used to live by the 3k rule..its taken forever for me to get to the point i felt "okay" with 7-7.5k per change. considering the climate and short trip city driving i do its not a bad idea IMO to stick at that interval.

Everyone has a preference on OC. It's fine to go 7,500 if you use a full synthetic IMO, otherwise I'd do 5k mile OC.

I gotta say, the oil in my Ecoboost looks like it's been in there for 20k miles when I change it, and I change it every 4k miles with Mobil 1

I only put on about 3K in two years and change my oil biyearly.

Wish I had it that easy, I have driven over 35,000 in the last 12 months, mostly towing and that is my truck! I also drive two other cars, those get driven around 20,000 a year.
The closet store is 4 miles away so 8 mile round trip is my minimum yet I am 20 miles away from the city, so the miles add up fast, I cant afford 3000 mile oil change intervals and found that ritual a bit illogical.

I had to find a better way and I did.

Not saying anyone is wrong by doing it. There's certainly no harm in changing oil before it's life is up. Just offering up info to people who may not be aware carry on how ever you see fit.

Everyone has priorities, Some of the guys I know here change their oil every other Sunday yet never touches the coolant and drives with bald tires...

I wasn't really point out your comments Trey, there have been some others that i was more directed at. I may have just used your "throwing money away" thing that's all. I didn't take what you said in a negative way at all.

My point was, i'm only 25 and was hard for me to break the habit of 3k, so i can't imagine someone older who has done it all their life having to try and change the mind set...old habits die hard as they say.

I get that. They are removing cspine and backboards from protocols for EMTs all over the world, but one of the first things we were taught was everyone with a possible injury gets a neck collar and a board. Now hardly anyone does.

WOW! what a turn of events! Funny stuff! well half of it! the EMT part is disgusting cause I am awake to the fraud of those who have changed the law for reasons they cant explain in plain terms.

Seems to be valid arguments from both the high miles crowd and the low miles crowd.

High miles per year crowd seem to do well on oil analisys, long trips , oil gets hot enough to boil out water and fuel vapors, the hot oild does well in cleaning out the engine...they run long intervals between oil changes.

the low miles per year crowd (myself included) run very short trips locally, engine oil rarely comes up to high side of operating temps, oil always smells like fuel, oil looks dirty very quickly, with 3000 miles per year we're thinking oil once or twice a year might make more sense than wating 2+ years if we went with 7500 drail intervals. If we wnet strictly by miles and stretched this out , should we drop filters in between...??? who knows.

I guess as long as you change it....

Yep. It is a red convertible with a 429 engine. My grandpa got it in about 1970 with a blown engine and my dad put a new engine in it for him. I got it in 08 when he died and restored it and gave it to my dad. It still had the same filter on it from when my dad put the engine in it.
